Puffin Scarlet Red Blend (Non-Vintage)
Tasting Notes
Puffin Scarlet is a blend of classic French grapes; Merlot (43%), Syrah (38%), Cabernet Sauvignon (17%) and Carmenere (1%). This wine is layered with red fruit aromas and flavors, including red cherry and raspberry. A beautiful garnet color, Puffin Scarlet delivers a soft mouth-feel with elegant tannins.
Food Pairing
Puffin Red Wine is food friendly and pairs nicely with a wide variety of foods, including wood-fired pizza, barbecued ribs, burgers or portabella mushroom.
Product Notes
The Syrah fruit comes from a vineyard just north of the Columbia Gorge, while the rest of the fruit is from the Spofford Station vineyard in Walla Walla, WA. Both vineyards use VSP (vertical shoot positioning) trellising.
In the cellar, this Red Wine was aged for 9 months in oak barrels. Approximately 67% of the oak barrels were French and 33% of the oak was American.
Winemaker
Puffin Scarlet is a collaboration with John Derthick, the Winemaker for Lujon Wines. Lujon Wines have recently received excellent industry recognition, including their 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded 92 points by Wine Spectator.
